DEAR TRUTH FAIRY READER,
It’s been a minute, as the kids say. For the last two years, I’ve been interviewing up a storm, hard at work on a new book, driven by a single question:
Why Aren’t the Kids Pairing Up?
Why have rates of dating, sex, and marriage all plummeted? Why are boys afraid to ask girls out in person? Why do so many girls say that having a boyfriend is “cringe”? And most importantly, what can we do about it?
There’s a lot to worry about these days. But I believe this is the most critical issue facing our civilization. Think of it this way: If I told you just one thing about the future—that the rising generation would find love and pair up—your worries would halve. But I can’t promise that. Right now, it looks like vast numbers won’t.
If the rising generation does not find love, if young people don’t pair bond, this society can have no future. We must turn this around—and we can.
I interviewed over one hundred young people, one-on-one, to discover the answer. We talked about their sexual experience, their romantic aspirations, their plans for the future, their dating lives.
I talked to dating coaches, demographers, psychologists, experts in sexual arousal and experts in mating. My answer is The Plot Against Love.
